Estate Administration in South Africa
Losing a loved one is emotionally devastating. When grief is compounded by legal, tax and financial procedures, families can quickly feel overwhelmed. Inheritance Legacy Holdings transforms this complex obligation into a structured administration process that keeps documents, deadlines, institutions and beneficiaries visible.
As experienced fiduciaries operating within the framework supervised by the Master of the High Court, we support families and can act as professional executors where properly appointed. Our focus is to protect the inheritance, settle debts lawfully and transfer assets without unnecessary delay.
What Estate Administration Means
A deceased estate consists of the person’s assets, including property, bank accounts, investments and personal goods, less liabilities such as debts, bonds and outstanding taxes.
Estate administration is governed by the Administration of Estates Act 66 of 1965 and is the process through which the deceased person’s affairs are lawfully wound up.
The Master of the High Court supervises deceased estate administration to protect the interests of heirs, beneficiaries and creditors.
The executor, nominated in a will or appointed by the Master, receives Letters of Executorship or other authority that allows them to administer the estate.
Why Professional Administration Matters
A will is important, but a will alone does not administer the estate. The executor must locate assets, place creditor notices, manage SARS requirements, consider capital gains tax and estate duty, deal with creditors and prepare the liquidation and distribution account.
Professional administration gives the family relief from that technical burden, reduces the risk of rejections or avoidable delays, and identifies liquidity issues before heirs are forced into rushed decisions about homes, investments or family assets.
